Junior cycling development in Michigan starts an exciting new chapter in 2019 with a new name for the state’s top Junior road team: Junior Cycle Sport

“With the loss of long-time sponsor Andrie Inc. in 2018 the team management has decided to make a name change to further the iconic nature of this junior development program,” said Junior Cycle Sport team Director Jason Swiatkowski.

The JCS junior team, powered by Village Bike & Fitness, continues the tradition started in 2011 under the umbrella of the West Michigan Coast Riders. That connection to the non-profit WMCR cycling organization based in West Michigan remains in place for 2019.

With the addition of major long-term financial support coming from Rob Wynalda, owner and President of Wynalda Packaging, members of the Junior Cycle Sport team will wear smooth-looking new orange-and-blue kits with JCS emblazoned on them that are sure to become identifiable in the state, region and across the country.

“I am extremely excited for my last year with the team,” said Junior Cycle Sport member Summer Gilbert (Hamilton, Michigan). “JCS is a new chapter for the team and I can’t wait to get the road season under way.”

Formerly known in Michigan and across the country as Andrie Junior Development, the legacy of state and national championship junior cyclists continues with Junior Cycle Sport. Key personnel remain in place to organize the team, including team managers Brant Hendler, Jason Swiatlowski, and Dean Cohen.

“We have a great group of kids and coaches and I think this kind of atmosphere – where everyone gets along and supports each other – is uncommon,” Gilbert said.

The 2019 Junior Cycle Sport team, powered by Village Bike & Fitness, is also sponsored by a strong group of behind-the-scenes organizations that help keep team members pedaling and focused on long-term goals.

Village Bike & Fitness keeps the team going with a lineup of new Giant Bicycles. Village Bike has four locations in the greater Grand Rapids, Michigan, area. Additional team support comes from Wynalda Packaging in Belmont, Michigan, Rapid Fire Protection in Grand Rapids, Vie13 Kustom Apparel, Roka eyewear, Progressive Components and Machine-Star, both based in Grand Rapids, and West Michigan Coast Riders.

“The JCS 2019 team sponsors are mostly new and very excited to support this program. In addition, most of these sponsors have chosen to support these top junior athletes simply because they believe in what we are doing with these youth and can see the value in supporting this sport,” Swiatkowski.
